In honor of Bob Geary our Council awarded the 2018 $1000 High School scholarship to St. Irene Grade Schooler Katherine McGowan who will be attending St. Francis High School in the Fall. Congratulations Katherine!

Katherine McGowan in her application describes her service and activities:
1. Your Church
I was an alter server from 4th through 8th grade.
After receiving Confirmation, I have been trained as a lector and will be lectoring for the first time this May.
I was honored to be chosen as our school’s Faith Formation leader, a year-long job to teach about Transubstantiation and God’s gift of Eucharist to the whole school.
I was selected to crown Mary in this year’s May Crowning.
I have been a student volunteer at Vacation Bible School for three years (after attending for many more).
2. Your School
I am one of only two people in my grade (and the only girl) who is a 4-sport, 4-year athletes (cross-country, volleyball, basketball and track).
I competed at the state level for Science Fair, receiving a Bronze award.
I was a kid duty helper for younger children for a year and a half.
I participated in Newspaper Club, Math Club, Drama Club.
I have been on honor roll or high honor roll every semester.
3. Your Community
I was in Girl Scouts for seven years in Troop 42174. Our troop had a service project for five years where we made jars of soup to benefit the St. Irene Food Pantry. Over those years we raised more than $1,200 for St. Irene Food Pantry by selling soup at the CCW Craft Fair.
I walked in the Crop Walk for two years with the residents of Monarch Landing to raise money to fight hunger.
I have been a member of performing groups including Young Naperville Singers and Christian Youth Theater since age 7. I’ve been a part of more than 11 plays through CYT, Warrenville Community Theater and St. Francis High School Summer Musical.
